You Enjoy Google Scholar? You Gonna Love SmealSearch!
SMEALSearch is a niche search engine that searches the web and catalogs academic articles as well as commercially produced articles and reports that address any branch of Business. The search engine crawls websites of universities, commercial organizations, research institutes and government departments to retrieve academic articles, working papers, white papers, consulting reports, magazine articles, and published statistics and facts. For certain documents, the database only stores the hyperlinks to those documents. SMEALSearch performs a citation analysis of all the academic articles accessed and lists them in order of their citation rates in academic papers (the most cited articles are listed first). Articles available through the SMEALSearch engine can be downloaded (for fair use) without any charges. However, some articles may have only the abstracts listed, and may have to be purchased directly from the appropriate sources. We gratefully acknowledge the support of NEC and Dr.Steve Lawrence in the development of SMEALSearch.

Following the recent explosion of electronic resources in libraries, a group of librarians discussed our need for a place to come together to explore the unique challenges that come with managing such collections, learn from each other, and create a closer community. This site has been created out of that need.

This means that, in addition to the books and articles accessible with other databases, book chapters, conference papers, working papers, reports, papers in conference proceedings, and other such research outlets can all be entered and then searched for within getCITED. In addition, getCITED makes it possible to link publications with all the publications in their bibliographies, thereby making possible a wide variety of publication and citation reports.

PURPOSE
LibSite.org is built around the premise that library-related projects need and deserve a higher profile, that the current technology allows us to engage this material in any number of creative ways. FEATURES
For that reason, the site features a blog, a wiki, RSS feeds and email alerts -- the last two being configurable down to individual tags. Users can rate sites and add them to a "favorites" page. There's even a LibSite Widget that people can put on their own sites: http://libsite.org/wiki/features
USER-GENERATED
Fundamental to the concept is user-involvement. Users can post recommendations ("webCites"). Users can add their own tags. Based on this input, others can then create RSS feeds and email alerts. All can participate if only to leave constructive comments and rate the work of others.

The LibraryLand Index project ceased to be maintained in August, 2001. Use of the service and reactions to the service no longer justified the amount of effort required to continue it. The project began in 1996 as an organized set of professional links for librarians. Those sites (listed below) may still be accessed.

Perceptions of Libraries and Information Resources (2005) summarizes findings of an international study on information-seeking habits and preferences.
With extensive input from hundreds of librarians and OCLC staff, the OCLC Market Research team developed a project and commissioned Harris Interactive Inc. to survey a representative sample of information consumers. In June of 2005, we collected over 3,300 responses from information consumers in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The Perceptions report provides the findings and responses from the  online survey in an effort to learn more about:
Library use
Awareness and use of library electronic resources
The Internet search engine, the library and the librarian
Free vs. for-fee information
The "Library" brand
The findings indicate that information consumers view libraries as
places to borrow print books, but they are unaware of the rich
electronic content they can access through libraries. Even though
information consumers make limited use of these resources, they
continue to trust libraries as reliable sources of information.
